Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
"You can’t stop the
future.
You can’t rewind the past.
The only way to learn the secret . . . is to press play.
Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a strange package with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker–his classmate and crush–who committed suicide two weeks earlier. Hannah’s voice tells him that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he’ll find out why.
Clay spends the night crisscrossing his town with Hannah as his guide. He becomes a firsthand witness to Hannah’s pain, and as he follows Hannah’s recorded words throughout his town, what he discovers changes his life forever. "

Date read: I forgot
Y’all this is perfect!!! C’mon, the storyline, the
characters, the atmosphere this is lit!!! I know I’m late on reviewing this novel.
There is a freaking drama series to go along with this novel on Netflix. I know
one day I going to sign up for Netflix plan just for this freaking awesome
drama series. Take my money y’all.
When I have my hands on this book it was the time when the screenplay
goes live and lit. Therefore the edition that I get is the one that comes with
pictures behind the scenes and some cut scenes of the drama. Also included the
description of the name of the character and the actor’s name and what scene
they are in. That’s a precious thing because at that time the bookstore I
ordered from was promoting the book and I was like ‘Hell yeah I gonna get this
one.’
As clearly depicts by the synopsis this a sad and serious
story. This is a piece of beautiful art. The use of the words are simple yet it
tells an incredible story. That’s the power of words. The story tells the
reasons behind the suicide of a high school student, Hannah Baker. Though many
people says that this is wrong and don’t like the idea of the suicide motive in
the story but it can’t be ignore that this is a social concern matter.
Hannah is just an ordinary high school student that trying
to make friends. But her friends ended up betray her just because of some
stupid list made by someone else. I think this is the most heart breaking part.
When you treat somebody wholeheartedly and thought that both of you could be
best friends but ended up the other person was just ditching you behind you
back. Spreading false rumors around just to make you look ugly due to some
misunderstanding by the other person of you. Any apologize wouldn’t turn the
time back to the past as what had been done is done.
It all started with rumors and people keeps pointing fingers
at Hannah saying that she just a cheap person. Some people might say that you
can ignore the rumors and live your life as what they say is not true.
Eventually it would be so hard to put up with it as most of the peoples has a perception
of you based on what they heard. Some people might just be want to close with
you because they could have get the benefit they want from you.
I’m not going to make the spoiler anymore here. I’m very
encourage every people coming from different walks of life to take a timeframe
to read this book. The book does teach us some very important life lessons. The
story remind us to be responsible for our actions to other peoples. Not because
you think what you did is right for you and this is how you act as a person but
at the very least the other person situations and feelings has to be the
concern in the first place before anything else.
With materialized world as we are in right now people are
selfish and full with ego. We want everything the best to ourselves sometimes
we did wrong to other people solely because of our own goals. Eventually the person might get back to you by
fighting you back or they been hurt so bad that they give up on themselves.
This is considered a light reading as the
content is easy understanding and the messages are clear. For me personally I
would reread this novel at different stages of my life. As I grew older I
learnt and have different perspective of life I might get different point of
view of the story. So, this book is totally worth for you to read it and reread
it again and again.
